Why did you choose WVU?: Being from West Virginia, the opportunity to stay here for residency and continue caring for the people and communities that shaped me was a huge part of why WVU stood out to me. During my away rotation, the faculty and residents made me feel welcomed from day one and truly made me feel like I was already part of the team. The people, the culture, and the commitment to serving West Virginia made WVU the place where I knew I wanted to train.

Brief bio: Alec Balon is a lifelong West Virginian who is excited to continue his medical training while serving the community he has always called home. Before pursuing medicine, Alec played collegiate lacrosse and worked as an EMT, where he enjoyed building connections with people and serving his community.

Outside of the hospital, Alec enjoys spending time outdoors, especially fishing, golfing, and biking. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys cheering on the Mountaineers, as well as the Steelers and Penguins.

Alec lives with his wife, Emily Turner, and their pets: their golden retriever, Teddy, and two cats, Leo and Leia. He is grateful for the opportunity to train in Emergency Medicine at WVU and looks forward to continuing to learn from his colleagues while caring for the people of West Virginia.
