About Ramazan Gun
Ramazan Gun, MD is a head and neck surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at West Virginia University who focuses on head and neck cancer resection and reconstruction. He completed a Clinical Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana (2024-2025), following his Clinical Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the same institution (2023-2024). He previously completed a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric-Oncologic Otolaryngology at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis (2022-2023). Prior to his fellowship training in the United States, Dr. Gun served as Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Memorial Healthcare Group in Istanbul, Turkey, and held academic positions at Avrasya University and Dicle University.
Dr. Gun earned his medical degree from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa School of Medicine in Turkey. He completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at Cukurova University, Balcali Hospital in Adana, Turkey. He also completed clinical research fellowships at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, where he served as coordinator of the ALT-VISION laboratory and conducted research on 3D printing technology applications in trans-nasal endoscopic sinus and skull base surgeries.
Dr. Gun has published extensively with over 40 peer-reviewed publications in English and Turkish medical journals, focusing on head and neck surgery, endoscopic skull base surgery, otolaryngology, and surgical outcomes. His research has been cited over 1,200 times according to Google Scholar, with an h-index of 19. Notable recent work includes studies on cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma gene expression profiling and novel skull base reconstruction techniques. He has contributed to medical textbooks and serves as a reviewer for multiple prestigious journals including The Laryngoscope and Head & Neck.
Dr. Gun has demonstrated significant leadership in medical education and professional organizations throughout his career. He has served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Memorial Atasehir Hospital and has been an invited speaker and course instructor at numerous national and international conferences. He has organized multiple scientific meetings and served on jury panels for academic promotions. Dr. Gun is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, and multiple Turkish medical societies.
