About Eyad Khabbaz
Eyad Khabbaz, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at West Virginia University, where he has served since August 2024. As a comprehensive otolaryngologist with specialized fellowship training in rhinology, sinus and skull base surgery, as well as otology/neurotology, Dr. Khabbaz provides expert care across the full spectrum of ENT conditions. His clinical focus emphasizes advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, otologic procedures, and general otolaryngology care.
Dr. Khabbaz earned his medical degree from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine in Syria in 1996, graduating Summa Cum Laude with academic distinction. He completed his otolaryngology residency at Damascus University Hospitals, followed by an extensive series of fellowship training programs in the United States. His post-graduate training included fellowships in otology/neurotology at the Hough Ear Institute, head and neck oncologic surgery at the University of Cincinnati, advanced otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, and rhinology, sinus and skull base surgery at Georgia Health Sciences University. Prior to joining West Virginia University, Dr. Khabbaz served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery and practicing otolaryngologist at Punxsutawney Area Hospital for seven years. Prior to that HE worked as assistant professor of otolaryngology at UPMC for 3 years.
Dr. Khabbaz's clinical and research interests span multiple subspecialties within otolaryngology, with particular emphasis on rhinology, otologic, and pediatric procedures alongside comprehensive general ENT care. His research portfolio includes investigations into absorbable hemostatic agents in endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic transnasal approaches to the infratemporal fossa and orbit, and management of cerebrospinal fluid leaks. He has published peer-reviewed articles on topics including the relationship between ABO blood grouping and laryngeal cancer outcomes and product comparison studies in otolaryngology. His ongoing research includes epidemiologic studies of patients with nasal polyps and asthma, reflecting his commitment to advancing rhinologic care.
Dr. Khabbaz is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Rhinologic Society, and the American Medical Association. He holds certifications from multiple international boards, including the Arab Board of Otolaryngology and Syrian Board of Otolaryngology. His recent academic contributions include peer-reviewed publications in The Laryngoscope and book chapters in "Otolaryngology Cases: The University of Cincinnati Clinical Portfolio," covering topics such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and odontogenic tumors.
