Title: Quality Assurance/Improvement (QA/QI) of the James A. Haley Helicobacter pylori Eradication Testing Practices: Antibiotic
Stewardship in the Gastroenterology Clinic
Project Description: This is a quality assurance/improvement project aimed to improve eradication testing at a veteran's hospital. The
goal of the project is to design at least two interventions, which may improve eradication testing at the veteran's hospital. Currently, there
is active data collection looking at all positive H. pylori tests over a specific time to further analyze eradication data.
Status: Pending further data collection for analysis

Title: Positive Fecal Immunochemical Testing (+FIT) in the COVID-19 Pandemic: Resilient Systems in Troubled Times
Project Description: This was a subgroup project based on data collection of patients with positive Fecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT)
and subsequent follow-up to colonoscopy. This project specifically assessed if there were any racial disparities in follow-up colonoscopy
within 180 days after a positive FIT. The data showed there were no significant racial disparities in positive follow-up between
pre-pandemic and pandemic times.
Status: Abstract submitted to ACG 2022

Title: Following Through on Positive Fecal Immunochemical Testing via FIT Navigation and a Direct-to-Colonoscopy Pathway:
Preparing for the Next Wave
Project Description: This QI project assessed follow-up after positive Fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) at a veteran's hospital. During
the COVID-19 pandemic, there was the addition of a FIT navigator to assist with the follow-up of these patients. We then did an
extensive chart review to determine if the addition of a single FIT navigator increased follow-up. From the initial data, there was no
significant increase in screening via colonoscopy after the addition of the FIT navigator. We have implemented a new pathway to ensure
better follow-up for these veterans through a full PDSA process.
Status: Abstract submitted to ACG 2022

Title: Management of Aerophagia and Rumination syndrome
Project Description: This is a multidisciplinary project with gastroenterology, speech and language pathology, and the swallowing center
to guide the management of Aerophagia and Rumination syndrome via an advanced algorithm for providers. The team of providers has
completed an extensive literature review and used clinical practice to help guide further treatment of these conditions.
Status: Pending IRB approval and continued collaboration between specialties

Title: Diagnostic Utility of Inpatient Fecal Occult Blood Testing
Project Description: This was a retrospective cohort study from a set time at Tampa General Hospital for ER and inpatient ordered Fecal
Occult Blood Tests (FOBT). The goal of the study was to determine the diagnostic yield of inpatient testing. Our results determined that
ordering the test was of little diagnostic utility and low yield. The future project is focused on implementing a decision support system in
the electronic medical record to help providers determine whether the test may help their clinical decision-making in the inpatient
setting.
Status: Abstract submitted to ACG 2022

Title: GI consultation before TEE: a necessary step for clearance in the inpatient setting?
Project Description: This was a retrospective cohort study looking at all patients from a set time that had an EGD performed before a
TEE while inpatient. Results of the study indicated that EGD was not electively required before TEE. There was significantly increased
hospital stay and delay in treatment plans as a result of this practice.
Status: Accepted as an abstract in AJG and poster presentation at ACG 2021

Project: Improving Continuity in Residency Clinic Across Multiple Sites in USF Internal Medicine Clinic
Project Description: There are three locations for the continuity clinic at the University of South Florida internal medicine program. It
was noted that continuity of care for patients in the resident clinic was not at goal in previous years. This QI project aims to improve
continuity by using a PDSA cycle method. We first measured "continuity" by looking at each resident's schedule over the previous two
months and determining the percentage of patients in who were appropriately following up with the respected resident. During this
process, we have found gaps at each location that are interfering with follow-up and have implemented changes at each site. We are now
following up on the changes over the year to determine if there was a significant improvement in continuity in the resident clinics.
Status: Pending further data after implementing changes at each site
