Research project titled: "Retrosepctive review of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Infectious Complications in Patients at Cabell
Huntington Hospital". The project was recently IRB-approved and is in the data collection phase. We are doing a retrospective study of
patients with IBD admitted to CHH between 01/2016 and 12/2021 to look at patient risk factors for infectious complications (including
type of treatment for their IBD) and correlate to type and severity of infection.

I am working with our advanced endoscopist and our hepatologist on an IRB-approved project looking at correlations between shear
wave elastography of the liver and spleen and EUS-guided portal pressure gradient measurements. We have submitted a preliminary
study to the 2022 ACG conference (decision pending). We plan to continue this project as we gather a larger sample of patients and plan
to look at other study outcomes using this same patient population.

During the summer between my first and second year of medical school, we began a project looking at medical comorbidities such as
hypertension and insulin resistance in patients under age 18 with BMI at or above the 85th percentile in the WVU CTSI Integrated Data
Repository, and whether or not those patients received intervention such as dietary counseling or medical treatment. We were also
determining how many of those patients were screened in the WV DHHS/WVU project "Coronary Artery Risk Detection in Appalachian
Communities (CARDIAC)" to determine the correlation between CARDIAC screening and interventions.

Student Researcher, Dr. Andreas Baur, Ph.D
I worked alongside three of my colleagues on a project titled "The Role of Directing Groups in Copper(I)-catalyzed
Decarboxylative Coupling Reactions". We investigated cheaper alternatives to the standard platinum catalysts used in these reactions.
Specifically, we looked at using copper in lieu of platinum in well known coupling reactions. Using copper is both cost-effective and
safer for the environment when compared to the standard platinum catalysts. The chemistry involved in these reactions is used in a
variety of industries including the pharmaceutical industry
