About Anthony Peluso
Dr. Anthony Peluso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, where he teaches courses in the undergraduate and graduate public health programs. Dr. Peluso earned his BS in Biological Sciences and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh followed by MPH and DrPH degrees from East Tennessee State University’s (ETSU) College of Public Health concentrating in Community Health. His dissertation research comprised a mixed-methods analysis of statewide survey data on abortion attitudes and perceptions among women of reproductive age in the Southeastern U.S. In addition to this, much of Dr. Peluso’s previous work has been situated in the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) space, with recent research endeavors on sexual and reproductive health legislation and policy, pharmacists’ perspectives around prescribing contraception, and pharmacy access to emergency contraception. Dr. Peluso is also interested in exploring connections and collaborations between community members, public health folks, and health care providers to improve SRH care and outcomes in rural Appalachia.
Dr. Peluso has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels on a variety of topics, including introductory public health, social and behavioral aspects of public health, research methods, and infectious disease epidemiology. As a graduate teaching associate, he received the Excellence in Teaching Award for his efforts in teaching introductory public health for undergraduate students.
Dr. Peluso is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Public Health Association, the American Pharmacists Association, and the Society of Family Planning. He has also served as a journal reviewer for Obstetrics & Gynecology, Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, and Sexuality Research and Social Policy and as an abstract reviewer for the American Public Health Association and Society of Family Planning annual meetings.
