Why did you choose WVU? : The people! No question about it! I applied to WVU because I thought the area was beautiful, it reminded me of Oregon, and I wanted to experience living closer to the East Coast. While all of these qualities attracted me to the program, it was the people I met on interview day that made me feel this program was my home. I always said I wanted a residency where everyone felt more like a family than coworkers and I found that here at WVU!
Brief bio: For most of my life I lived amongst the overcast skies and pine-tree clad mountains of Oregon. It was there I began my journey of becoming a doctor and found myself as the obedient servant of two cats. I explored my interest in emergency medicine by volunteering in emergency departments throughout high school and college as well as by working as a medical scribe. On weekends, I could be found exploring the mountains, hiking trails, indulging my love for reading, or learning new construction skills while remodeling a fixer-upper of a house. Medical school brought me to Arizona where my love for the outdoors expanded to include kayaking and paddleboarding. Free moments were spent exploring that land of cacti and triple digits. Although I enjoyed my experiences in both Oregon and Arizona, I was excited for the chance to live some place new that residency provided. West Virginia’s close-knit communities, breathtaking scenery, and ample opportunities for outdoor adventures call to me. I am looking forward to the next few years of living, learning, and working in this beautiful state!
