Why did you choose WVU?
Having had much of my higher education in Appalachia, returning and continuing my education in the foothills being surrounded by the region’s beauty, wilderness, and good people. WVU matched my goals of attending a Level 1 Trauma academic hospital that serves as a safety net for the surrounding area. This allows for a wide array of pathologies to be present at Ruby. What surprised me the most was how genuinely kind and approachable everyone is at Ruby. There’s a passion for learning and teaching here that is incredible. Being attached to a medical school also allows for ample opportunities to help teach, learn from, and interact with learners of all levels.
Brief bio:
Originally born in Winston-Salem, NC, I moved to Springboro, Ohio when I was 10 years old. After high school, I attended Morehead State University tucked in the eastern Kentucky foothills. While attending Morehead, I decided to start cycling with a Trans-American ride from Washington State to Washington, DC. This is also where I first fell in love with Emergency Medicine volunteering in St. Claire Regional’s ED. I spent a gap year studying muscle physiology in Huntington’s Disease and ALS mice models after graduation and prior to attending OU-HCOM. While in Appalachian Ohio for medical school, I continued studying muscle metabolism and physiology in its relation to obesity and fat metabolism. In my off time, you can find me running/cycling/lifting or adventuring in the woods looking for something new to identify, learn from, and potentially eat!
