Dr. Hendrickson is a board-certified advanced practice registered nurse, clinical nurse specialist with specialties in the areas of gerontology and oncology. Dr. Hendrickson received her DNP from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, her MSN from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, & her BSN from Edinboro University of PA. Her teaching interests are in the areas of medical-surgical nursing, clinical education and gerontological nursing. Dr. Hendrickson’s evidence-based practice project and research interests include quality improvement and delirium/dementia. She has developed and implemented several evidence-based practice projects in the acute care clinical setting including a house-wide bladder bundle protocol that has sustained an 80% decrease in the rate of catheter associated urinary tract infections over the past 5 years and an early mobility protocol for older adults that decreased length of stay by 2.7 patient days on the pilot unit and received a national award from the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. Her work to develop a delirium protocol bundle for older adult postoperative hip fracture patients resulted in a 27.5% decrease in delirium incidence on the orthopedic unit and was implemented house-wide. Dr. Hendrickson designed and implemented a 6-bed secured unit for stable confused patients including specialized staff training and an individualized, interdisciplinary patient care plan that resulted in a significant decrease in sustained delirium and in length of stay. She has presented her work nationally and published several projects. She maintains memberships in the American Nurses Association, West Virginia Nurses Association, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Alpha Rho chapter.
