About Ivan Mulligan
Dr. Mulligan has practiced physical therapy for over 25 years and has over 15 years experience in physical therapy education. Before coming to WVU, Dr. Mulligan was a program director of a Doctor of Physical Therapy program, initiated or supported several post-professional residency programs, and co-founded the nation's first Master's program in Cancer Care.
Clinically, Dr. Mulligan primarily has worked in outpatient physical therapy focusing on sports and orthopedics. While in the clinic, Dr. Mulligan initiated a sports medicine program providing outreach athletic training services to local high schools and co-developed injury prevention and preseason conditioning programs for ten different sports. In 2002, Dr. Mulligan was selected as a volunteer physical therapist for the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah. He provided services in the Olympic Village and the long track speed skating venue. Dr. Mulligan provided physical therapy services for the Johnstown Johnnies, a frontier league baseball team, in 2003.
Dr. Mulligan has been active in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Pennsylvania Chapter of APTA. He has held served on several committees, task forces, and elected offices in the Pennsylvania Chapter. Elected offices included West Central District Director, Treasurer, and President. He has served as APTA House of Delegates, PA Delegate for several years. Service to the APTA included a Finance and Budget Committee member and is currently a Board of Trustee for the APTA Centennial Properties. Dr. Mulligan received the APTA Lucy Blair Service Award in 2020 and the APTA Pennsylvania Chapter's Service Award in 2012.

Dr. Mulligan is a board-certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy and certified athletic trainer. His areas of specialty include the evaluation and treatment of athletes with shoulder dysfunction, and non-athletes with orthopedic conditions. He has worked with athletes from all levels (Little league to Olympic) for rehabilitation, performance and wellness programs.
