About Tessa Goebel
Hometown: Pullman, Washington and Anaconda, Montana
Undergraduate institution: California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo
Medical school: Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
Why did you choose WVU? I chose WVU because I have a strong interest in rural EM and I would ideally like to practice in rural Montana after residency. WVU’s EM program seemed ideal since it allowed me to primarily train at a large academic hospital while also allocating months of training throughout residency in community hospitals. Overall, I am looking forward to rotating at UHC throughout residency and participating in the REMI experience. Additionally, I have an interest in ultrasound and it was very important for me to go to a program that would help build upon the skill set I gained in medical school.
Brief bio: After attending high school in eastern Washington, Tessa attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA where she majored in Kinesiology. Post college, she moved back home to Montana where she worked as an EMT in Montana City and as a volunteer ski patroller at Big Sky Resort. Medical school took her across the country to Cleveland, Ohio where she attended CWRU school of medicine. She met her husband Josh while in Cleveland and they got married after medical school graduation. With their dog Winston, they moved down to Morgantown for residency. Tessa is excited to be back in the mountains for residency and looks forward to spending time outdoors on her days off. Her hobbies include hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking and skiing. Her EM interest include rural EM, ultrasound and wilderness medicine.
