About Mallory Croley
Brief Bio:
I was born and raised in Concord, North Carolina. I moved to East Tennessee for medical school where I was exposed to the growing healthcare needs in rural Appalachia. I am interested in pursuing rural surgery in underserved communities, but I am open-minded towards specialties.
What attracted you to WVU Surgery Residency?
I knew that I was looking for a small town with "big city" hospital training. Morgantown offers the small-town feel that I am used to but has a big university hospital that serves as a major referral center for the state. The WVU surgery program is well-established with many years of experience training surgical residents. I knew that WVU surgery would train me to be a competent and confident general surgeon in the full scope of practice and give me opportunities to see a myriad of complex cases. WVU surgery can provide me with this all in the comfort of a small and safe town to live in, with access to rural underserved areas of Appalachia.
What makes our program unique?
The perfused cadaver program is unique and offers surgical residents a new learning experience. It provides a safe and protected atmosphere for learners to practice surgical skills and prepare for real-world scenarios.
WVU surgery is unique in that it is based in a small college town but associated with a major University hospital. This is exactly what I was wanting in my training program.
What do you like about Morgantown?
It reminds me a lot of East Tennessee, which is where I attended medical school. It is a safe town to live in and offers many scenic views and hiking spots within a day's drive. It is a town with a lot of WVU school spirit and I found the people to be welcoming and friendly. Everyone I have talked to who lives in Morgantown or attended college in Morgantown absolutely loves it!
