About Krystal Abucevicz-Swick
Krystal is a DNP prepared nurse practitioner who specializes in pulmonary medicine and wound care at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital and Garret Regional Medical Centers. She graduated from the RN to BSN, MSN, and DNP programs at West Virginia University. Krystal began her teaching career in August 2021 where she was a didactic and clinical instructor in the BNS program, Keyser campus. After 3 years of full-time teaching, she returned to clinical practice full-time but has continued to work as a Senior Lecturer with WVU School of Nursing. She also serves as an adjunct clinical instructor for Frostburg State University in the RN to BSN and LPN to BSN programs. Krystal is a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and is Wound Care Certified. During her time as a didactic and clinical instructor, she has worked to integrate tobacco treatment into the nursing curriculum and participated on a research team doing secondary data analysis to examine the mediating effect of mood state between sleep factors (sleepiness, OSA severity, latency, efficiency as the independent/predictor variables) and PAP adherence and health-related quality of life (as the dependent/outcome variables). She graduated from the WVU DNP program in August 2024. Her DNP project focused on implementing a structured, evidence-based diabetes continuous glucose monitoring education program into an outpatient diabetes education program to improve patient knowledge and self-efficacy.
Additional Info
Teaching interests: Krystal teaches at the undergraduate level in the nursing program. Her teaching interests include Health Assessment& Communication, Foundations of Nursing Practice, and tobacco treatment.
Research Interests
Obstructive Sleep Apnea and PAP adherence.
