About Vishal Thakur
I completed my general surgery residency at TNMC in Mumbai, India. Driven by a deep passion for neurosurgery, I went on to pursue an M.Ch. in Neurosurgery at SCTIMST in Thiruvananthapuram, an Institute of National Importance known for its academic excellence and clinical rigor. To further broaden my expertise, I completed fellowships in Pediatric and Epilepsy Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary in Canada.
In 2021, I joined West Virginia University (WVU) as a clinical fellow in Functional Neurosurgery under the mentorship of Dr. Ali Rezai, Dr. Peter Konrad, and Dr. Nicholas Brandmeir. Inspired by my experience and committed to advancing my career in the United States, I chose to pursue a U.S. residency and was honored to be selected at WVU. The program offers an outstanding platform for developing advanced skills, particularly in functional and spinal neurosurgery, which align perfectly with my professional interests and aspirations. The breadth, complexity, and volume of cases at WVU have provided me with invaluable hands-on experience that aligns perfectly with my professional goals.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and sketching. I’m also an avid cricket player—a sport that not only keeps me active but also connects me to my roots and the spirit of teamwork I deeply value.
