About Jill Lituma
Dr. Jill Lituma is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Exercise Physiology at West Virginia University and serves as Program Coordinator for the Dance Science Area of Emphasis and the Performing Arts Medicine Minor. Her teaching, scholarship, and service focus on the health, wellness, and healthcare experiences of performing artists, with particular expertise in dance science and performing arts medicine.
Dr. Lituma earned degrees in Athletic Training, Dance Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies, and her doctoral research examined the healthcare experiences of dancers in the United States and Australia. A Board of Certified Athletic Trainer, she previously worked with circus artists at Cirque du Soleil's “Zumanity” in Las Vegas and with collegiate performing artists at Ohio University.
She has been actively involved with the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science for more than eight years, including service on its Board of Directors from 2017–2023. Through her teaching, research, and program leadership, Dr. Lituma is dedicated to advancing the health and performance of artists while preparing the next generation of professionals in performing arts medicine.
Originally from New Hampshire, Dr. Lituma now calls West Virginia home, where she lives with her husband, Dr. Chris Lituma, and their three sons. She is an avid hiker with her youngest son and Dalmatian, Jupiter.
