Grant A. Neely, MD, DABA is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He serves as the Division Chief of Regional and Acute Pain Anesthesia, Associate Program Director for the Anesthesiology Residency Program, and Associate Director of Clinical Operations within the Department of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Neely earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine before completing his anesthesiology residency at West Virginia University. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Regional and Acute Pain Medicine at the University of Virginia.

His clinical practice focuses on regional anesthesia, acute pain management, orthopedic anesthesia, trauma, and perioperative ultrasound. He has led the development and implementation of multiple innovative regional anesthesia pathways designed to improve patient outcomes, enhance recovery after surgery, and increase perioperative efficiency. His interests include motor-sparing regional anesthesia techniques, cryoneurolysis, point-of-care ultrasound, and perioperative optimization.

As Associate Program Director, Dr. Neely is actively involved in resident education, curriculum development, mentorship, and recruitment. He is passionate about advancing anesthesiology education through innovative teaching methods and preparing residents for successful clinical practice and board certification.

Dr. Neely’s scholarly work focuses on regional anesthesia, perioperative ultrasound, acute pain management, and enhanced recovery pathways. He has authored peer-reviewed publications, presented nationally at anesthesiology conferences, and collaborates on clinical research aimed at improving perioperative care.

Outside of his clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Neely enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and remains committed to mentoring the next generation of anesthesiologists while advancing the field through education, innovation, and patient-centered care.
