About Shailendra Singh
Dr. Shailendra Singh is Professor of Medicine and Director of Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown, West Virginia. He earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi University, India, and completed his residency and fellowship training in Pittsburgh at Allegheny Health Network and the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Singh specializes in minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, with particular focus on bariatric and surgical endoscopy and advanced endoscopy procedures like Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP.
Internationally recognized for his expertise, he has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and holds multiple patents. He is regarded as a national leader in the performance and teaching of Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), EUS-guided ablations, and other interventional endoscopic procedures, and currently leads pivotal U.S. clinical trials in endoscopic weight loss (ESG), metabolic intervention (duodenal mucosal resurfacing), and interventional EUS.
At WVU, Dr. Singh helped establish a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary Advanced Endoscopy Center dedicated to innovation, clinical excellence, and patient-centered care. He was recently honored with the Rising Star Award from the National Pancreas Foundation in recognition of his contributions to pancreatic disease research and the advancement of therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. Singh frequently serves as course director and faculty at national and international endoscopy courses and workshops, delivering lectures and live case demonstrations both in the United States and abroad. He co-founded the West Virginia Interventional and Surgical Endoscopy (WISE) course. He actively mentors medical students, residents, gastroenterology fellows, and advanced endoscopy trainees while providing guidance to colleagues across the country. He also serves as doctoral dissertation advisor and supervisor for PhD candidate in WVU's Clinical and Translational Science program.
Dr. Singh holds leadership roles on several national committees, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Clinical Guidelines Committee—through which he co-authored AGA Clinical Practice Guidelines—the Bariatric Advisory Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and the Digestive Disease Week (DDW) Planning Committee. He also serves on the editorial board and as a reviewer for numerous gastroenterology journals, contributing to clinical practice, guidelines, and innovation in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy.
