Why did you choose WVU?
So many reasons, but easily the biggest: the people. The attendings’ enthusiasm and teaching style are a big part of what drew me to EM in the first place, and the atmosphere in the ED/DEM is open, supportive, and kind. The PDs’ caring is evident in their devotion to the program and attention to detail; e.g. Dr. Shaver’s legendary interview day presentation. As an MS3&4 at WVU, on so many rotations when I’d ask for advice, other med students would say “Just go talk to ‘X’, they’re so nice, they’ll help you,” and no matter where I was in the hospital, it seemed that person was a WVU EM resident. This learning environment, the resources and facilities of a large university and its flagship hospital, and rotations at both a busy community ED and a small rural ED all make a program that’s hard to beat.
Brief bio:
I’m a huge fan of the Red Sox, and I’m now a WVU lifer, having gone to undergrad, med school, and residency here, so naturally I’m a big WVU sports fan as well. In addition to watching and playing sports, some of my hobbies include reading novels and playing video games. Some of my interests in emergency medicine include ultrasound, sports medicine, and medical education.
