About Kris Martens
Dr. Martens earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Following her graduate training, Dr. Martens completed postdoctoral research fellowships at the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience in Lethbridge, AB and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. She joined the WVU faculty as a Teaching Assistant Professor in July 2016.
Dr. Martens’ research interests are varied, but her ultimate goal is to help individuals recover function following injury, particularly in the case of traumatic brain injury (TBI). She uses a variety of techniques including behavioral, histopathological, and microbiological in order to assess the chronic cognitive impairments that occur as a result of injury. The research of Dr. Martens will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Vonder Haar. The overarching goal of his laboratory is to find viable treatment options for the long-term dysfunction that occurs as a result of TBI.
