Shane grew up in a small town called Thurmond in southern West Virginia. He completed his undergraduate training at WVU, followed by completing his  medical education at Marshall University, and then returned to Morgantown for residency. He enjoys the beautiful outdoors that West Virginia has to offer and can often be found boating, skiing, or hiking on his days off. He married his college sweetheart and they are currently expecting twins in October 2017. He will be joining the faculty at WVU in July 2017.
