About Ghassan Ghorayeb
Ghassan Ghorayeb, M.D., renowned for his innovative approaches in ophthalmology, began his distinguished career with a comprehensive residency and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Recognized for his exceptional skill and dedication, he was appointed Chief Resident and received the prestigious Award for Exceptional Achievement.
Further honing his expertise, Dr. Ghorayeb joined the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as a fellow and clinical instructor, thereby solidifying his esteemed status in the medical community. His commitment to medical advancement is exemplified through his leadership in more than thirty significant clinical trials, addressing a spectrum of crucial issues from diabetic retinal diseases to retinal detachments.
Ghorayeb joined the WVU Eye Institute and WVU Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 2012. He serves as an associate professor, the director of the Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program and the vice chair of clinical affairs.
At the West Virginia Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Ghorayeb serves as president, showcasing his exemplary leadership skills. Nationally, he co-chairs the Fellowship Directors’ Education & Training Committee of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the preeminent organization in its field in the U.S. He also contributes as a board member of the ASCRS’s retina committee, influencing anterior segment and cataract surgery practices nationally.
Beyond his clinical and academic prowess, Dr. Ghorayeb has demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by co-founding a non-profit organization that aims to alleviate poverty through agricultural advancements in his native country, showcasing his commitment to global welfare.
Currently, Dr. Ghorayeb is enriching his impressive career by pursuing an Executive MBA at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Business. This endeavor represents his unwavering dedication to integrating leadership and administrative excellence into his medical expertise, paving the way for future innovations in healthcare and beyond.
