About Joel Yednock
Dr. Joel Yednock, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Department of Medicine at West Virginia University. He obtained his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 2006 and completed residency in Internal Medicine through the Department of Medicine at WVU in 2009. He served as Chief Resident for the Department of Medicine in 2009-2010. He is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He recognized that the training he received was one that was very supportive and conducive to his growth as a young physician and hoped to share this with his students and residents. He served as Medical Director of Hospitalists at WVU from September of 2010 through July 2015. He has served as WVU School of Medicine Internal Medicine Clerkship Director beginning in July 2016, a role that he has greatly enjoyed. He enjoys caring for patients in the hospital and in clinic. He is a previous participant of the Doctors’ Dilemma Medical Jeopardy competition at ACP medical conferences as a resident and helps to teach and support the residents in this activity yearly. He is a prior recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award and a multi-year winner of the Department of Medicine Clinician of the Year Awards. He also won the national Press Ganey Top Provider and Patient Satisfaction Awards.
Dr. Yednock is a Mountaineer at heart and cherishes his role as a provider for the people of the state and as a medical educator. His teaching philosophy can be described as supportive and encouraging. He hopes to stimulate his students’ and residents’ learning and inspire learners to become life-long learners. He encourages and believes in the use of technology as teaching tools. He routinely uses Turning Point to help give interactive case based lectures and loves to play medical jeopardy with his learners. Dr. Yednock is also a fellow for the American College of Physicians. His strongest interests include medication safety, geriatrics and medical education.
