BIOGRAPHY
About Carrie Smith-Bell
Narrative:
Carrie joined WVU in 1999 working in research in the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology and Neuroscience. After nearly two decades of basic science research where she acquired valuable hands-on, critical thinking, data analysis, and writing skills, Carrie embarked on a new and rewarding career in occupational therapy. Carrie joined the WVU Human Performance Department, Occupational Therapy Division in 2021 with an interest in treating clients across the lifespan as well as educating future occupational therapists. She is involved in various inter-professional education activities that benefit students in occupational therapy as well as other disciplines. Carrie has worked with inclusive community programming for children as a Level Certified Handwriting Specialist through Leaving Without Tears. Carrie has designed and run multisensory handwriting camps for children of all abilities. She is pursuing a PhD in Occupational Science at Towson University, as well as, the Assistive Technology Professional Certification to assist clients of all ages in selecting and using assistive technology to promote their health, well-being, and participation in valued occupations.
In her spare time, Carrie enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters for crafting, running, baking, biking, and playing with their dog and guinea pigs.

Carrie Smith-Bell is an occupational therapist who specializes in rehabilitation for individuals with Parkinson Disease, cognitive and physical decline and frailty. She also specializes in attention deficit disorders and evaluates children in our multi-disciplinary clinic in conjunction with our speech and physical therapy pediatric specialists. Ms. Smith-Bell has specialty training in handwriting limitations in both children and adults.
