About Shanthi Manivannan
Shanthi Manivannan, MD, Ph.D., FACP is an Associate Professor and Division Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of Madras, India. She earned a PhD from the graduate University for Advanced Studies, School of Life Sciences, Okazaki, Japan. She completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Puerto Rica, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Subsequently, she completed residency training in Internal Medicine at WVU. She is currently the Division Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine where she has been a faculty physician since 1998. The Division has achieved rapid growth during the time she has been the Division Chief and now has 25 faculty physicians and 5 APPs working at 2 PCMH certified ambulatory clinics, a large inpatient service and a Transitions of Care clinic.
Dr. Manivannan is active in resident and medical student education. She teaches and practices in the Medicine ambulatory clinic, Medicine inpatient service, and Transitions of Care clinic. She provides medical student/resident lectures and precepts them in clinic. She serves as the Medical Director in Care Management services of WVUH, Medical Director of Dean Ornish program (2012-2015), and Medical Director for Quality (inpatient and ambulatory services / Medicine). She has developed the “Transitions of Care Clinic” in the Division of General Internal Medicine, which provides transitions of care to the large number of discharges from the Medicine inpatient services. She actively participates in several quality initiatives and research projects. She is a member of American College of Physician and has been granted ACP fellowship in 2017.
