Dr. Lander joined the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine faculty in 2005. He made the move to Morgantown from Boston, MA after working for one year as a staff EM physician at Beth Israel Medical Center (BIDMC) and completing a course in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard School of Public Health. He had completed his EM Residency at BIDMC the year prior, joining that program in its second year of existence after completing medical school education at SUNY Stony Brook, NY. He has served as Medical Director since 2007 and Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations since 2011, a direct result of his primary interest in the operational and logistic issues that challenge every Emergency Department every day. His primary clinical areas of interest are critical care and sepsis, although to be honest, any presentation of profoundly altered or disrupted physiology will catch his eye and attention. When not in and around Department, Dr. Lander finds his time filled with working around his house, finding excuses to mess around on one of two tractors, ride the family horses, coach youth lacrosse and otherwise do things directly with his hands to keep the balance of life somewhere closer to the middle than not.
