The Extra Mile Award is intended to recognize professionals who have made a significant positive contribution in the field of child abuse and neglect and have gone the “extra mile” on behalf of abused and neglected children and uphold professional excellence in their field of work contributing to the safety and wellbeing of children who have been victims of abuse or neglect. The anonymous nomination reportedly originating in Charleston, included, “Dr. Banvard's enthusiasm for elevating the comprehensive care for child abuse victims in West Virginia is contagious. She is generous with her time and energy both serving child victims from Monongalia and Marion Counties, and educating other medical professionals around the state. She is an alliance builder both with the families that she serves and with the professionals she works alongside.
