About Garrett Volk
Hometown: Cross Lanes, West Virginia
Undergraduate institution: West Virginia University
Medical school: West Virginia University School of Medicine
Why did you choose WVU?
WVU has been my home away from home for close to a decade. Even as a high schooler, I spent numerous weekends in Morgantown visiting family, riding the PRT, and touring the campus that both my parents and grandparents attended. Being able to pursue my career as an EM physician for three more years in this town was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made! The level of healthcare that WVU provides to the people of West Virginia is unparalleled and I’m proud to play a small part in all of it.
Brief bio:
Before moving to Morgantown in 2015, I attended Nitro High School and lived on the outskirts of Charleston in Cross Lanes, WV. I majored in Exercise Physiology, spent a year at dental school, then transitioned to medical school and graduated in 2024. I’m also part of the inaugural MATTER program class for Emergency Medicine at WVU. Outside of work, I’m a huge NFL and soccer fan with my favorite teams being the Las Vegas Raiders and FC Bayern Munich. In my spare time, I play tennis, soccer, and intramural football. If you don’t see me in the hospital, you’ll probably see me walking around it with my golden retriever Luna!
