About Tayler Drake
Name: Tayler Drake
Hometown: Tucson, Arizona
Undergraduate institution: Gonzaga University
Medical school: University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine
Why did you choose WVU? I first heard about the WVU EM program through a close friend who did his residency here. Both he and his wife could not say enough great things about the training, the people, and Morgantown. When applying to residency programs, my goals were to: 1. Be around nice people who want to work hard, learn, and enjoy life 2. Have access to rural and community sites where I can be challenged enough to feel comfortable on my own as an attending 3. Have exposure to different flavors of EM early to understand if a fellowship is in my future 4. Live somewhere with easy access to the outdoors that offers an abundance of activities. WVU easily checked every one of these boxes.
Brief bio: I grew up in Arizona and needed a change of scenery, so I did my undergrad in Eastern Washington at Gonzaga where I studied business and rowed on the crew team. Following graduation, I traveled and worked as an EMT, eventually following my now husband to the East Coast where I completed my post-bacc program and medical school in Burlington at the University of Vermont. I enjoy staying active, preferably outdoors, whether hiking, biking, running, etc. My husband and I cook together and love hosting friends. I am just getting into gardening and making sourdough. March Madness is my favorite season (Go Cats and Go Zags) but I am excited to see what WVU football is all about.
