About Allyson Younken
Hometown: Waynesburg, Pennsylvania
Undergraduate institution: Penn State University
Medical school: University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Why did you choose WVU? Morgantown is 30 minutes from my hometown – it has always been a big part of my life. I lived and worked in Morgantown as an ED scribe at Ruby Memorial during my gap year between college and medical school, and knew I eventually wanted to come back. Besides the proximity to family, I love the people and diverse array of pathologies we gain exposure to in the emergency department. WVU also aligned with my dream of completing residency in a large academic center located in a rural setting. I am absolutely loving being surrounded by wilderness, good people, and incredible teachers/ leaders in emergency medicine.
Brief bio:
I was originally born in Boca Raton, FL but spent the majority of my childhood growing up on a 70 acre farm in Waynesburg, PA. I went to Penn State for college with the intent of becoming an animal science major, but discovered new passions once I became an ED volunteer and started working at a Pregnancy Resource Clinic. I took a year off to scribe in Morgantown, WV before attending medical school in Maine. I loved my time on the coast of New England but am excited to be back home for residency. Outside of work you can usually find me outdoors – I love to trail run, hike, ski, and travel to wilderness areas. You can also find me spending time with my family and friends, reading a good book, and of course always hanging out with my dog Kaladin!
