About Samuel George
Hometown: Red Lodge, Montana
Undergraduate institution: Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah
Medical school: University of Washington
Why did you choose WVU? WVU Medicine checked all the boxes for me. It is a large, busy level 1 trauma center in a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and outdoor activities, there are many opportunities to train in rural emergency departments, and from the beginning it was obvious that the people are down to earth, supportive, and passionate about emergency medicine.
Brief bio: I grew up in Red Lodge, Montana, a small ski town near Yellowstone NP. I have always loved spending time outside and exploring new places. My interest in emergency medicine started during my last year of high school when I worked as a volunteer EMT for our local EMS crew. After attending college at Westminster in Salt Lake City, UT, I moved to Almo, ID to work as a park ranger at the beautiful City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park. I have always felt more at home in rural towns, which is what led me to the rural and underserved medicine track at the University of Washington School of Medicine. On my free time, you can find me exploring new trails in the area, trying to adapt my trout fishing skills to the local bass and walleye, or comparing anatomy and physiology notes with my girlfriend Hannah as she finishes her last year of veterinary school.
