Dr. Ritchie is an associate professor in the school of nursing at WVU, and Track Coordinator for the FNP Program. She served as Interim Chair for the WVU Beckley BSN program in 2020-2021. She has been faculty at WVU for 13 years. She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and has practiced for 21 years, most of which has been in a rural primary health care center, as well as urgent care. Dr. Ritchie began teaching in 2000 at Glenville State College where she was a clinical instructor in the undergraduate nursing program. She joined West Virginia University in 2009. As a clinician, Dr. Ritchie currently practices at Minnie Hamilton Health Systems in Calhoun County where she sees patients across the life span in primary care and medication assisted treatment for opioid dependence. In 2005, Dr. Ritchie’s rural practice in primary care was featured in the US News and World Report, highlighting the contribution of nurse practitioners in leading change in the delivery of healthcare across the country. With a current focus on addiction nursing, Dr. Ritchie is committed to the prevention, intervention, treatment, and management of addictive disorders. Recent grant participation includes WVU faculty INSPIRE to care grant focusing on collaboration with healthcare partners to meet the care needs of vulnerable, rural and underserved areas in WV and enhance APRN learning experiences, and a grant to expand treatment in primary care clinics for patients suffering with addiction. In 2021, Dr. Ritchie & colleages received a grant from WV Higher Education Policy Commission to develop a shadowing course on the WVU Tech campus to give students experiences in various healthcare professsions helping them decide on program of study. Currently, Dr. Ritchie is a member of the National Organization for Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) and serves as a member of the determinants of health special interest group.
