About Collin John
Dr. Collin John grew up in a small town outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania He attended Penn State University for his undergraduate degree where he graduated with distinction in 2001. He then attended West Virginia University where he received both his Medical Degree and Masters in Public Health degrees in 2007. He then completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency in 2011 at West Virginia University before staying on as faculty. He is currently an Associate Professor in the departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He maintains an active clinical profile in both departments. He serves as a teaching physician for WVU Children’s Hospital in both the outpatient pediatric clinics as well as the inpatient pediatric ward service. He also serves as an attending physician on the busy Internal Medicine Hospitalist service. He also serves as a physician for the WVU Children’s Cholesterol Clinic. In addition to his clinical duties, he also serves as an assistant program director for the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency program. He also co-directs the Public Health course that is taught to all first year medical students at WVU. He is the principal investigator for Project WATCH, a grant funded by the Department of Health and Human Resources focused on the survelliance of high risk infants born in West Virginia, for which he was honored with the American Academy of Pediatrics Special Achievement Award for the WV Chapter. He maintains an active research profile as he has been an author or co-author for 15 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has been a co-author on numerous abstracts and oral presentations. His main research foci are on perinatal epidemiology and high risk infants, as well as childhood dyslipidemia and obesity. He has been a co-author for 2 textbook chapters. He serves as an associate editor for the West Virginia Medical Journal. For fun he enjoys soccer, hanging out with friends, doing handiwork, travelling and spending time with his wife and 2 cats.
