About Meghan Bastin
My exposure to the professional side of dentistry began as a dental hygiene student (2007-2009). During dental hygiene school, I worked as a part-time, on-the-job trained oral surgery assistant (2008-2009). During dental school, I worked as a dental hygienist on evenings and weekends, and completed a Master’s degree in Public Health (2011-2015). I pursued pediatric dentistry experiences in an AEGD program in Ohio (2015-2016) and a private pediatric practice (2016-2017) in Pennsylvania before matching to a hospital-based pediatric dental residency in New Jersey (2017-2019). I returned to the same pediatric dental practice where I served patients in rural northwestern Pennsylvania (2019-2022) before coming onboard at WVU.
My interests are varied and include teledentistry, patient education, public health, didactic education, behavior management, clinical education, minimally invasive techniques, anesthesiology, and dental research. My current research is focusing on workforce changes and healthcare shortages in this part of Appalachia.
