About Megan Smith
Dr. Megan L. Smith, Ph.D., received her doctorate in human development and family studies from the WVU College of Education and Human Services in 2015. She has a teaching degree from California State University-Chico (2008) and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, with an emphasis on diverse populations and education, from the University of California-Santa Cruz (2006). Dr. Smith’s research blends education, human development, and public health literature to support the best possible outcomes for young people. Previously a K-12 teacher, her work often focuses on the school environment as a context for risk and protective factors in the adolescent population. She is a Teaching Scholar for WVU Health Sciences, and she serves on the evaluation team for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/West Virginia Department of Education’s Project AWARE, promoting emotional health and safety in West Virginia public schools.
