Originally from southern West Virginia, Dr. Burrell developed a love for science, which led her to the profession of medicine. She developed an interest in urgent care medicine while still in residency, moonlighting at a local clinic.  After completing her training, Dr. Burrell knew she wanted to return to Morgantown to provide healthcare. She enjoys the college age population and diversity that the university provides.

Serving as the Division Chief of Ambulatory Operations for Emergency Medicine and Medical Director of the clinics, Dr. Burrell has been responsible for overseeing the Emergency Department’s ambulatory clinics:  WVU Urgent Care, Suncrest , Evansdale, and Fairmont Gateway Clinic locations, WVU Student Health Services, and the WVU International Travel Clinic.  During this time, the clinics have grown and expanded to encompass a wide variety of services to the university students and community.  Joint research projects have expanded at both clinical locations in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and UPMC.  Dr. Burrell is also involved in research concerning college aged sexual heath and infectious disease.

Dr. Burrell is a member of the Ambulatory Care Medical Committee, Emerging Infectious Disease Committee, and the Health Promotion and Wellness Leadership Team.  She is actively involved in the clinical teaching of medical, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and athletic training students and special operations combat medics, in addition to residents.  She has lectured on identifying and addressing domestic violence during the routine patient visit and addressing domestic violence during the routine patient visit.
