About Edward Petsonk
Dr. Petsonk is currently a Professor in the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Medicine. He received an AB in Physics, summa cum laude from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and MDCM from the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He performed his internship in Internal Medicine at Metropolitan General Hospital, Cleveland, OH, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital of McGill University where he also served as a Chief Resident. He completed fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases at McGill University and West Virginia University and is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases. He served for 27 years as a Medical Officer in the United States Public Health Service, initially at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Parker, AZ where he served as Clinical Director, and subsequently at the laboratories of the Centers for Disease Control, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, WV, where he served as Chief of the Clinical Section, and Team Leader for the Workforce Screening and Surveillance Team. He has been a member of the faculty in the School of Medicine at WVU since 1980. He has been the recipient of numerous CDC and U.S. Public Health Service awards, is a NIOSH-certified B Reader, and is considered an international expert in occupational lung diseases.
